Off to La La Land

Off to La La Land

Hey guys! Life has been a bit chaotic lately—but in a good way! After moving into a new house (post coming soon, I promise!), my friend Emily and I took a trip west to California. Some of our good childhood friends live there and sadly it had been five years since I last took a trip out there to see them! (Quick disclaimer: I wasn't the best at remembering to take photos on this trip, so some of these photos are low quality—sorry!)

Our trip was Wednesday through Monday. Emily and I both worked that whole day on Wednesday because our flight wasn’t until 7:30pm, which landed us in LA at 11:30pm. We hadn’t really planned on doing anything the first night, but, of course, our friend Dylan—who picked us up at the airport—wanted to get a drink. So off we went—our first night out in Hollywood! We went to two bars in West Hollywood, or how the cool kids would say it, WeHo. It was a great way to kick off our vacation, although we were pretty tired considering the two-hour time difference.

Our first night out at The Chapel
Day two consisted of a little exploring, brunch, and enjoying the perfect weather. The day somehow got away from us and before we knew it, it was 3:00pm and we had to start getting ready for our evening. Thursday night we attended the Make-A-Wish Greater Los Angeles Gala at the Palladium—where Dylan works. The whole gang was there, including Usher! Seriously, Usher was there. He was being honored, but unfortunately didn’t perform.

After feeling like the one percent for a couple of hours, we changed out of our cocktail attire and got on our way to Sound Nightclub where we spent the rest of the night dancing to house music.

Now it’s Friday (I think I asked what day it was every single day). Emily and I met up with Joe, got blended coffees from The Coffee Bean and delicious salads from an Insta-worthy salad bar called Sweetgreen. It’s a chain restaurant, but we had never been there before. For those of you who don’t know what it is, it’s kind of like a Chipotle or Subway—fast casual in terms of how you order your salad and watch them make it. I got the Kale Caesar—would 10/10 recommend.

After a refreshing lunch, we went hiking around Bronson Canyon, which apparently has been and still is the location for a ton of movies and TV series. I thought that was kind of cool, but considering we were in LA (where dreams come true and movies are made), maybe not so cool after all. But it was nice to feel like we were out of the city for a hot second.

After our hike, we were on a time schedule. We had to be to Union Station at 5:30pm to pick up another childhood friend, Austin, who was very unexpectedly going to be in town for the night! Joe had everyone over to his place Friday evening and he whipped up a 5-star dinner—avocado arugula salad, crab cakes, steamed chicken, and baby bok choy. It was so good! After dinner, we headed to WeHo for a full night on the town.

Saturday was spent exploring Hermosa Beach. Emily, Cassie, Joe, and I met up with our friend Neil, who lives near there. The five of us hopped around to different bars and restaurants, walked the pier, and enjoyed the sunset on the beach.

Saturday night we enjoyed live music at Harvard and Stone—maybe one of my favorite bars we went to! We went a few more places then a few of us treated ourselves to an amazing taco food truck. Al pastor tacos… I think that’s all I have to say.

By the time Sunday came, I’m sure you can imagine we were pretty exhausted! Because Emily and I were flying out Monday, we took it easy Sunday. We went to brunch at Home Restaurant and then pretty much just relaxed the whole day. We spent our last night eating delicious Mexican at a local spot near Dylan’s house, then had a fire in the backyard and played Crack the Case (my new favorite game!).

It was so good to get away and visit my good friends. We all decided that Cali needs to become an annual trip. Until next time, LA!
