I love trying different kinds of makeup—but the hard thing is that it's so expensive! And even when you read handfuls of reviews and get the test the makeup at the store, you're still let down sometimes.
After having a brief falling out with Target—because they abruptly stopped carrying my favorite eyebrow pencil—I decided to head to Ulta instead. I had religiously used the Sonia Kashuk eyebrow pencil in taupe. It was a sad day when I went to Target just to stock up and they were gone. I tried a few other brands from Target, but nothing could replace it.
At Ulta I stumbled across this Anastasia pencil. I tried it out at the store and to my delight, it was exactly like the Sonia Kashuk one! It also has a brush on the other end—I always brush my brows up before drawing them in. I personally love pencils over every other kind. I like having the ability to sharpen it, which makes it easier to shape my brows.
While at Ulta I also looked for a new highlighter and mascara. A friend who was with me suggested I try Tart Lights, Camera, Lashes. Again, of course, I tried it on at the store. I wasn't 100 percent sure about it, but my friend swears by it, so I decided to give it a try.
I always, always, always layer on two different kinds of mascara. I use the new Tart one as my base. It's great because it doesn't clump up and I do think it lengthens them pretty well. I still wouldn't use this as my only mascara, though. On top I layer Maybelline Lash Sensational Full Fan Effect. Another great thing about the Tart mascara is that it doesn't make your lashes all dry and crumble off at the end of the day—I definitely feel like it's nicer to my lashes.
While in the Anastasia section at Ulta, I found the most beautiful highlighter—Anastasia Amrezy Highlighter. The beauty consultant that was helping me insisted on letting her apply it for me, so I did. It was just too beautiful to pass up! The packed powder is an iridescent, shimmery gold. To be frank, I'm obsessed!
The last thing I'm currently loving is this sea texture spray by VERB. This was recommended to me by my stylist right after she chopped my hair. I had been searching for a spray that could help give me body without weighing my hair down—and this stuff does just that. It's dry, not wet, so your hair won't get weird and crunchy either. I spray it on my roots in different layers of my hair and then rub it in.
