2019 Iowa State Fair

2019 Iowa State Fair

When the fair comes around, it feels like summer is coming to a close. (Even though there's still an entire month left.) Seriously though, where did the past three months go!? I've been consumed by wedding planning, weekly commitments, and social obligations — and I've also been trying to make working out and eating health(ish) a priority. It's been a good summer but it's been exhausting ... in a good way.

But speaking of the Iowa State Fair, I got a lot of questions about one of my recent Instagram posts. To answer your questions: Yes, my fiance, Tad, loves the fair. He's a big fair guy. If it were up to him, he'd probably go every single day. He and his family's love for the fair has definitely rubbed off on me.

A lot of people told me they just don't get it. They don't understand the fair hype. For me, it's the food. Every year I make a list of the grub I want to try.

There's always the every-year must-haves:

  • Crescenti's
  • The wood-fired pizza on top of the hill (paired with a glass of wine and the view of downtown Des Moines)
  • Cheese curds
  • A tenderloin from Beattie's Watermelon Stand

And every year I always add a few new things to the list. This year so far I've already tried a taco (it was delicious) and JR Mini Donuts, which are apparently famous at the fair but I had never had them until this year! If you guys have any favorite, must-haves, please share them in the comments below and I'll be sure to try 'em out!

Besides the fair, I've had a lot of other fun things going on like being in a friend's wedding and my sister's diaper keg — which I'll definitely share details about in another post soon!

For the past two and a half months I basically had plans eight out of the ten weekends. For the remainder of the summer, I only have a few weekend plans as of now, and I'm planning on keeping it that way! Although there are things I want to do, October 25th is going to sneak up on Tad and I really fast. I think I should take all of the downtime I can to relax before the real wedding craziness begins!

Also, I need to talk about the bodysuit and jean shorts I'm wearing in these pics.

They're from .... Hollister.

Yes, I know what you're thinking. Before I stepped foot in there this summer, I hadn't been in a Hollister since I was a sophomore in high school. But I was in search of jean shorts and thought I'd give it a try.

I had major success.

I only bought this pair of shorts, which are true to size (I wear a size 27), but there were a couple other pairs I loved, too! The bodysuit is a size medium and I seriously love it! I am thinking I may need to get it in a couple of other colors. Moral of the story, don't be afraid to try new (or so old to you that it's new again) stores.

Keep scrolling for more fun fair pics!
